He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.(Rev 2:7)
Are the gates of heaven being opened or closed to you in this day? We like to hear about open heaven blessings and how God will open his windows to bless us in a super-abundant way. When you live under an open heaven blessing, you can get financial blessings. Other blessings can include healing, favor and wisdom. We, all, like to hear about the blessings of God but what happens when it closes? What can shut up our blessings and leave us dry?
Notice in Rev 2:7, God mentions the tree of life. The tree of life is, also, mentioned in the book of Genesis. We, all, know how Adam and Eve was expelled from the garden. We, also, saw how God prohibited them from eating of the tree of life. (Gen 3:22-23) That was a sad state of affairs but God had another plan. He had a special plan for our tongues. The word of God says that life and death is in the power of the tongue and they that love it shall eat the FRUIT thereof. What kind of fruit was God speaking of? Trees. (Prov 15:4)
Believe it or not, there is a tree of life and death in your tongue. You can have a precious garden of Eden or a desert in your life. The tongue is a powerful weapon but there comes a time when the tongue can lose it’s power. How? By giving place to the enemy. There has been many teachings on how important it is to walk in love. Walking in love, without a doubt, will help strengthen your faith, but I wanted to add one more thing that can stop the windows of blessings from being manifested in your life and that is the sin of Idolatry.
Most of us would not dare to have an idol of a Buddha or a Virgin Mary in our house, much less to bow down and pray to it, but we do have idols that show up in subtle ways, One of these is the flesh. The apostle Paul, with tears in his eyes, gave a strong message to the church of the Philippians. He said that the flesh was an idol to them and they were going to hell. Imagine you going to a church on Sunday and hearing that? The Apostle Paul had a Pastor’s heart. He warned them that idolatry was gong to cost them their soul! That is not good news.
Idolatry can, also, cause you not to have your prayers answered. Let’s look at the following verse below—
Take heed to yourselves, that your heart be not deceived, and ye turn aside, and serve other gods, and worship them; And then the Lord‘s wrath be kindled against you, and he shut up the heaven, that there be no rain, and that the land yield not her fruit; and lest ye perish quickly from off the good land which the Lord giveth you.(Deut 11:16-17)
Folks, we need to see that our God is a jealous God. Idolatry is a serious matter in heaven but the good news is that God, in his grace, will forgive you if we confess our sins. Notice what he does after we confess our idolatry to him…. He will cleanse us from our idols.(Ezekiel 36:25) One translation says that he will scrub us clean. The water is the word and it will cleanse us if we let him do it. Identification in Christ is vital for the body. We need to know who we are in Christ and what belongs to us. Then, and only then, will we have a gateway open to our tree of life and see many wonderful miracles.
